Sports Massage Therapy
Sports Massage is used pre-event to warm and awaken
muscles and to enable the athlete to train and perform
more consistently at a higher level. It is also used post-event
to drain fatigue, relieve swelling, reduce muscle tension,
promote flexibility, and to prevent injuries. Lighter
Sports Massage is used post-event to cleanse the lactic
acid build up from the muscles and to oxygenate the tissue.
It is a faster more rigorous massage that can benefit
the body before and after any sports activity.
This is a highly recommended treatment if you are involved
in regular biking, swimming, hiking, running, weight lifting
etc. When minor injuries and lesions occur from overexertion,
massage can break them down quickly and effectively. The
strokes are faster and more rigorous than most massage
to either help the body wake up for pre-event or keep
the blood flowing and eventually slowing down for post-event.
Also involved is stretching and passive joint movement
which facilitates loosening of the joints when limbs are
being moved by the therapist.
